Speed & Motor Performance

Lycaon GR - Speed & Motor Performance

The Lycaon GR Electric Skateboard offers impressive speed and motor performance, thanks to its top-of-the-line specs. With a top speed of 24 mph, instantaneous acceleration, and dual 480 Watt motors, this board is built to provide a fast and powerful ride.

Top Speed Tests

The Lycaon GR Electric Skateboard has a top speed of 24 mph, which I was able to achieve on flat, smooth terrain. I also tested the skateboard’s top speed in each of its four modes: Low, Medium, High, and Pro.

In Low mode, the skateboard reached a top speed of 12 mph, while in Medium mode, it reached 18 mph. In High mode, the skateboard reached 22 mph, and in Pro mode, it hit its maximum speed of 24 mph.

The acceleration was smooth, and the board was able to maintain its speed consistently throughout my tests.

Acceleration Tests

The Lycaon GR Electric Skateboard has an instantaneous acceleration feature in its Pro mode, which is impressive.

In my tests, the acceleration was smooth, and the board quickly reached its top speed without any hesitation. I also found that the skateboard had a good acceleration rate in its other modes, providing a quick start to my rides.

0 to 20 MPH (32.2 KMH)7.73 s7.26 s
0 to 23.3 MPH (37.5 KMH)15.45 s15.11 s

Hill Climb Ability

The Lycaon GR Electric Skateboard has a hill climb ability of up to 30%, which I tested on various inclines. The board was able to climb hills with ease, and I didn’t experience any drop in speed or power.

The dual 480 Watt motors provided ample torque for uphill rides, and the board was able to maintain a steady pace throughout the climb.

Overall, the Lycaon GR Electric Skateboard’s speed and motor performance are impressive, making it a top choice for riders who value speed and power.

Range & Battery Performance

Lycaon GR - Range & Battery Performance

The Lycaon GR Electric Skateboard has a range of 15-20 miles (24-30 km), depending on factors such as riding style, weight, terrain, and weather. To evaluate its battery performance, we conducted range tests in different modes, including Speed Priority, Regular, and Range Priority.

Range Tests

For the range tests, we set the skateboard to different modes and rode until the battery was fully drained. Here are the results:

ModeAvg. Speed (mph/kph)Range
Speed Priority19 mph / 30.5 kph13.5 miles / 21.7 km
Regular16 mph / 25.7 kph15 miles / 24 km
Range Priority12 mph / 19.3 kph19 miles / 30.6 km

Overall, we were pleased with the battery performance of the Lycaon GR Electric Skateboard. The range was consistent with the manufacturer’s claims, and the battery held up well during our tests. The range tests also showed that the skateboard offers a good balance of speed and range in all three modes.

Board Design & Ride Quality

Lycaon GR - Board Design & Ride Quality

The Lycaon GR Electric Skateboard is designed to be sleek and lightweight, yet sturdy enough to withstand daily use. Here are the details on its board design and ride quality.

Weight

The Lycaon GR is slightly below average in weight, which is a great feature for those who are looking for a lightweight and portable electric skateboard. Its weight of 18.9 lbs or 8.6 kg makes it easy to carry around when not in use, or when you need to carry it up a flight of stairs.

However, I did notice that the weight distribution is a little off-balance, with most of the weight concentrated at the back of the board. This can make it a little challenging to carry for extended periods, but it’s not a significant issue.

Deck

The deck of the Lycaon GR is made from 8-ply Canadian maple, which gives it a solid and durable feel. However, I noticed that the deck flexes too much in the middle, especially when going over uneven surfaces.

While some riders might appreciate the extra flex for a smoother ride, I would have preferred a more gradual flex curve that doesn’t feel as mushy in the middle.

That being said, the deck has a comfortable concave shape that locks your feet in place and provides excellent grip.

Wheels

Lycaon GR - Wheels

The Lycaon GR comes equipped with 90*62mm SHR78A wheels that offer a good balance of speed and traction. The wheels are soft enough to absorb minor road imperfections and provide a comfortable ride, but they’re not so soft that they sacrifice speed or stability.

However, I did find that the wheels can be a little slippery on wet surfaces, so riders should take extra caution when riding in wet conditions.

Trucks & Bushings

The trucks on the Lycaon GR are sturdy and well-built, with a responsive turning radius that allows for smooth and precise turns.

The bushings, on the other hand, are a little on the stiff side, which can make the board feel a bit rigid and unresponsive. However, this stiffness does help with stability at higher speeds and prevents the board from wobbling or shaking.

Waterproofing

The waterproofing job on the Lycaon GR is solid, with an IP54 rating that protects against daily dust and splash. This means you can ride the board in light rain or damp conditions without worrying about damaging the electronics.

However, it’s important to note that the board is not completely waterproof and should not be submerged in water.

Build & Ride Summarized

Overall, the build quality of the Lycaon GR is excellent, with a sturdy deck, responsive trucks, and well-built wheels. While it’s not the lightest board on the market, it’s still relatively easy to carry around and transport.

The ride quality is comfortable, with good speed and stability, but it does struggle with suboptimal road conditions. The board’s waterproofing is also a plus, providing extra peace of mind when riding in damp conditions.

ESC and Remote

Lycaon GR - ESC and Remote

The Lycaon GR comes with a reliable Hobbywing 10S ESC and a wireless remote that is easy to use. The ESC provides smooth and responsive acceleration and braking, allowing for precise control of the board.

The one-button start feature makes it easy to turn the on and off the board without any hassle. The remote is compact and ergonomically designed, fitting comfortably in the hand.

It provides accurate speed control and has a clear digital display that shows the current speed, battery level, and riding mode.

The remote also includes a safety feature that requires the user to hold down the brake before accelerating, which can help prevent accidental acceleration and enhance rider safety.

Overall, the ESC and remote on the Lycaon GR are intuitive and user-friendly, making for a smooth and enjoyable riding experience.

Final Verdict – Who Is The Lycaon GR For?

Overall, the Lycaon GR electric skateboard is a high-performing board that offers great value for money. With its best-in-class motor performance and range, it is a great option for those looking for a fast and efficient means of transportation.

However, the board’s minimal ground clearance and suboptimal handling of rough road conditions may make it less suitable for those looking for a more versatile board. The Lycaon GR is best suited for riders who prioritize speed and range above all else and are willing to compromise on some aspects of ride quality.

With its relatively lightweight design and solid waterproofing, it is also a great option for commuters who need a reliable and efficient board for daily use. Overall, the Lycaon GR is a great choice for anyone looking for a high-performance electric skateboard that won’t break the bank.
