Segway Ninebot ES2 Review

The Segway Ninebot ES2 is a sleek and stylish electric scooter that has taken the market by storm. Designed by Segway, a leader in the personal transportation industry. Its lightweight frame and foldable design make it easy to carry on public transportation or store in a small space.

With a top speed of 16 mph and a range of 16 miles, the Ninebot ES2 is a good option for those looking for an eco-friendly and convenient mode of transportation.

In this review, We will also explore its key features, including its top speed, acceleration, motor power, battery capacity, and range to help you decide if it’s the right choice for your needs.

Performance Summary

The Segway Ninebot ES2 is a lightweight and compact electric scooter that is powered by a 300 W motor. The motor is quiet and efficient and is designed to offer a smooth and comfortable ride, making it an excellent choice for daily commuters or anyone who needs a quick and convenient way to travel around the city.

Top Speed

The top speed of the Segway Ninebot ES2 is 16 mph. The top speed of 16 mph is average for electric scooters in its class, and the acceleration is smooth and steady. While it’s not the fastest or most powerful electric scooter on the market, it’s more than enough for most commuters and city dwellers.

Acceleration

The acceleration is also quite remarkable, with the scooter capable of going from 0 to 15 mph in just 7.1 seconds. This means that riders can quickly and easily reach their desired speed, making the Segway Ninebot ES2 a great choice for those who are always on the go.

Hill Climbing

In terms of hill climb, the Segway Ninebot ES2 can easily tackle inclines of 10 to 15% grade, making it a great option for those who live in hilly areas. The motor provides ample power to tackle steep slopes without compromising the overall performance of the scooter.

Battery and Range

The Segway Ninebot ES2 is an impressive electric scooter that packs a lot of features into its compact frame. While the 187 Wh battery is relatively small compared to some other electric scooters on the market, its charging time is quite impressive. In just 3.5 hours, riders can fully recharge the battery, ensuring that it’s always ready for their next adventure.

Range

Segway claims that the Ninebot ES2 can travel up to 16 miles on a single charge, which is an impressive feat. However, during our series of testing, we found that the real-world range is closer to 11-12 miles. While this may not be the best range on the market, it is still quite good, especially considering the scooter’s affordable price.

Price-Range Ratio

The battery and range of the Segway Ninebot ES2 are well-suited for most commuting needs. However, for longer trips or more extensive travel, riders may need to consider a different electric scooter with a larger battery and longer range. That said, the range vs. price ratio of the Ninebot ES2 is excellent, making it an attractive option for those looking for a reliable and affordable electric scooter.

Suspension & Ride Quality

The Segway Ninebot ES2 has solid tires and a basic suspension system, which makes for less-than-ideal ride quality. It features 8-inch airless tires, which may not provide the most comfortable and smooth ride compared to pneumatic tires. Although airless tires are prone to go flat, the ones on this scooter got no grip and are a pain to ride.

The Segway Ninebot ES2 does come equipped with very generic front and rear shock absorbers, On paper, it should have helped reduce some of the vibrations and bumps during the ride. However, our testing revealed that these shock absorbers are not as effective as they could be.

Overall, the ride quality is not terrible considering it is designed for urban riding, it could have been improved with better suspension systems and air-filled tires.

Portability

One of the most significant advantages of the Segway Ninebot ES2 is its portability. Weighing in at only 29 pounds, it is one of the lightest electric scooters on the market, making it easy to carry and store. Additionally, it has a folded dimension of 44 by 17 by 12 inches, making it easy to fit into small spaces like a trunk, closet, or under desk.

The Segway Ninebot ES2 also comes with a foldable stem. The handlebar, however, is not foldable, which can be a drawback for some users as it makes it more challenging to fit into small spaces.

Despite this, the Segway Ninebot ES2’s compact design and portability make it an excellent choice for those who need a convenient and lightweight mode of transportation.

Safety and Reliability

Safety and reliability are critical factors when it comes to choosing an electric scooter. The Segway Ninebot ES2 is designed with both of these factors in mind, making it a safe and reliable option for commuting and urban travel.

Deck

The deck of the Segway Ninebot ES2 is built to last, with robust quality that ensures durability and reliability. It can hold a weight capacity of up to 220 pounds, making it suitable for most riders.

Additionally, the deck features a grippy surface that provides added traction, which can help prevent slipping and sliding during the ride. The deck’s build quality ensures that it can handle daily wear and tear, providing riders with a safe and stable ride.

Braking

Segway Ninebot ES2 brakes

The Segway Ninebot ES2 comes equipped with both front regenerative brakes and rear foot brakes. While these brakes may not be the most effective, they still provide adequate stopping power for most urban commuting needs.

We put the Ninebot ES2’s braking system to the test by conducting a series of emergency brake tests. When using both the front and rear foot brakes at its top speed of 15 mph, the scooter came to a stop at 20 feet. However, when relying solely on the front brake, we observed a longer braking distance of over 33+ feet.

It’s worth noting that these results may vary depending on various factors such as rider weight and road conditions.

Handlebar & Cockpit

Segway Ninebot ES2 Cockpit

The handlebar and cockpit of the Segway Ninebot ES2 are designed to provide riders with all the information they need during the ride. The LCD display on the center of the handlebar provides information on speed, battery level, and other essential metrics.

The accelerator and brakes are responsive, and the grips are ergonomic, providing riders with a comfortable and secure grip during the ride. The handlebar’s design and build quality make it easy to control and maneuver the scooter, ensuring a safe and enjoyable ride.

Lights

The Segway Ninebot ES2 is equipped with a bright LED headlight and tail light. The tail light is located on both rear sides of the scooter, providing excellent visibility for riders during night rides.

Additionally, the under-deck lighting adds an aesthetic look while also providing extra visibility during low-light conditions. The lights are bright and easily visible, ensuring that riders can see and be seen during night rides. Overall, the lighting system adds an extra layer of safety to the Segway Ninebot ES2.

Dust & Water Resistance

The Ninebot ES2 boasts an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, which means that it’s protected against dust ingress and splashes of water from any direction. While this rating doesn’t make the scooter completely waterproof, it does offer a degree of protection against the elements.

This feature is particularly useful for riders who live in areas with unpredictable weather conditions or who need to ride through puddles or wet streets.

Warranty

The Segway Ninebot ES2 comes with a one-year warranty, which covers defects in material and workmanship. Additionally, Segway offers customer support through their website, which includes troubleshooting guides, manuals, and FAQs.

They also have a customer service team available via email and phone to answer any questions or concerns. While the warranty and customer support are decent, they may not be as comprehensive as other electric scooter brands on the market.

Ninebot ES2 vs Moovi vs Xiaomi M365 Pro

Ninebot ES2 vs Moovi vs Xiaomi M365 Pro

The Segway Ninebot ES2, Moovi, and Xiaomi M365 Pro are all popular electric scooters on the market. While the Ninebot ES2 has impressive speed and acceleration, its range and ride quality is not as good as the Moovi and Xiaomi M365 Pro.

The Moovi has a larger battery capacity and range, while the Xiaomi M365 Pro offers a longer range and better ride quality due to its pneumatic tires and superior suspension. Additionally, both the Moovi and Xiaomi M365 Pro have better braking performance compared to the Ninebot ES2.

In terms of price, the Ninebot ES2 is more affordable than the Xiaomi M365 Pro but slightly more expensive than the Moovi. Overall, the Moovi and Xiaomi M365 Pro offer better features and performance for their price point, making them more attractive options for those seeking reliable and comfortable electric scooters.

Conclusion

Overall, the Segway Ninebot ES2 offers a decent range, good portability, and a sleek design. The scooter’s safety and reliability features, such as its robust deck and handlebar, LCD display, and LED lights, add to its overall practicality.

The scooter provides a solid option for those looking for a practical and affordable electric scooter for their daily commute or leisurely rides. However, the ride quality should have been improved with better suspension and more comfortable tires. The braking system is decent but should have been more effective.

Additionally, there are now many newer electric scooter models available on the market that offer more advanced features and better performance. Therefore, it may not be worth the investment in 2023. If you’re looking for a reliable and high-performing electric scooter, it may be worth considering some of the newer options available.
